Many people want to start a small business that will add extra income at the initial stage, and that will develop into one that would not require too much effort; thereby giving them more space, time and freedom to do the other things in life that they enjoy.

The first vital step to successfully running your own business is to identify what you love to do; what brings you satisfaction and enjoyment. This provides you with the deep desire and passion to keep you motivated, and not to regard it as work, but as something you are happy in doing.

Believe in yourself and in your abilities that you can achieve what you want, and take massive action daily in the direction of your goals. At the end of each day, tick off your daily goals that you achieved and go over the next day’s goals. This way you keep your eyes on your targets and develope the attitude of success.

“When you know you want something, and you are passionate about it, you can make it happen.”

Do you have a hobby or talent that you are passionate about, that you feel you would like to take to the next level?

Jack just started his own business and he understood the advantage of holding presentations to promote his product. His challenge was fear of looking foolish and not communicating too clearly and convincingly to his audience. Fear was standing in his way, blocking his confidence.

He spent the next couple of weeks building up his self-confidence. Then he practised doing the entire presentation as if he was giving it to ten attendees.

He was slow at the beginning, nervously referring to his index cards for support. After a little while, he put the cards aside and carried on as if the cards weren’t even there. He focused his attention to an area as if there were ten people in the room, and went on with the presentation.

As he progressed into it, he gradually gained more confidence; his posture was tall and composed, his voice radiated courage, the spoken words showed his complete knowledge of the product. At the end, he was so impressed with himself that he laughed loudly and clapped hard and long. “Yes. Yes. Yes, I did it!”

I met up with him after a few days, and I asked him how he felt, he victoriously explained, “I didn’t fight it. I made it my intention to conquer the fear of making a presentation, and the only way to do it was for me to step right into it.”

That was his first step in conquering his fear of lacking confidence. A few weeks later, he held a small presentation to seventeen people, then twenty.

By gradually increasing your self-confidence, one small step at a time, you can reduce and overcome your fear of greater success.

If you have a fear that is holding you back from greater achievements in life, what would that fear be?

To achieve more and to be a high performer, you would want to be both active and highly productive in all that you do.

You can save yourself a lot of time and effort, and avoid the trial and error method, simply by learning from others who had achieved bigger results in the same field as yours.

By learning what other successful people did, and by adopting their methods into your life you, too, can achieve similar success.

I encouraged one of my clients to leisurely read as many biographies of highly successful people as she could. She might find the biographies pleasurable to read and she might also find them truly inspiring and motivating.

Having read a few such books, this client was surprised to learn that even though they were highly successful people, they still constantly looked for ways to improve the quality of their lives.

They still invested a huge amount of their time discovering and considering ways to be even more effective and productive in the service that they provide.

Constant and never-ending improvement! A great value worth importing into your life!

If you were to read a biography of a highly successful person in your field, whose biography would you read?

I make it a daily rule that, after visualising my goals and going through the things I am grateful for in my life, I set the day’s intention - how I intend my day to go - then I go about my day.
Every now and then I remind myself of my intention so it remains at the forefront of my thoughts.
Someone I knew complained that his business was not making enough money for him to hire some staff so he could enjoy having more free time.
When asked, he informed me that whenever he wanted to increase his business he would say and think to himself, “I don’t make enough money to hire staff yet.”
I asked him to change his line of thought to: “I intend to attract unlimited abundance into my life right now.” He was to repeat that intention as many times as possible throughout the day, starting first thing in the morning upon awakening.
After a while, he noticed he had a more relaxed approach towards his business and he felt less stressful. Within a few short months, he hired a sales assistant and an assistant manager.
He then started to enjoy worry-free days off. A luxury he didn’t have before. Although he always carried his mobile phone with him, in case of an emergency, he relaxed more and was able to spend more quality time with his family.
Are you willing to set daily intentions and reap their rewards?

When you want to learn something quickly or to get proficient at something fast, you simply practise doing that thing over and over again.

For example, if you want to improve your sales presentation skills, do more presentations. Similarly, if you want to become more competent on cold sales, then pick up the phone and do more sales calls.

Through repetition you become more confident and courageous, more knowledgeable and skilful. Nothing even comes close to the power and benefit of repetition.

How do you think you got very good at your job? How did you learn the route from home to the office? How did you get good at making presentations or meeting people, or anything? It’s through the power of repetition.

When you practise anything every day, you’ll get so skilled at it, it becomes automatic. If you drive a car, you don’t consciously change gears, do you? You simply reach out with your left hand and change gears. You don’t think about it. You just go ahead and do it. Automatically.

Remember this when you begin to feel irritated or discouraged at your lack of ability when trying to do something new.

Substitute helplessness with the desire to practise.
