One of my friends used to walk around and mumble quietly with his chin to his chest, “I’m just not good enough to make the Sunday football team.”
What he didn’t realise at the time was that the thoughts that he kept repeating to himself greatly influenced his level of confidence.
The words, I’m just not good enough, were very powerful and negative. What my friend should have done was kept his thoughts positive and optimistic.
By being decisive in his mind set that he was good enough, he would have stepped out of his comfort zone, gained more confidence and would have proved that he was able to handle that new challenge and make the team.
Negative thoughts do have the power to render people weak, uncertain and ineffective; whereas positive thoughts depict certainty, courage and confidence.
Try this, replace disempowering thoughts such as, “I just can’t do this” with, “This is easy. I can do it.”
Substituting negative thoughts with positive inspirations is a powerful way to gain self-confidence.
