Today I am going to reveal something very important. Are you ready?

I am going to let you know the method I regularly use to assess how I feel when I come across an uncomfortable situation. This will allow me to assess how uneasy and unconfident I feel so I may do something about it.

For example, I analyse how I feel when I attend a networking evening. I pay particular attention to decipher what it is that is making me uncomfortable and unconfident.

Is it the location? Has it been a while since I attended one? Is it the organiser? The drinks? The set up? The people? Or a certain individual? As I am networking I am also analysing.

I use the typical 1-10 scale; where 1 is very nervous and unconfident and 10 being totally confident.

Once I have identified what it was that made me uneasy, I assess my level of confidence. If it is below 6 then I recognise that I need to work on my self-confidence in that area.

Do you consider yourself to be a cool pretender? Where there times when you pretended to be something you’re not? Like at a fancy dress party or perhaps were you felt sad but pretended you happy?

I know in have.

If you can pretend you are something you are not, why not pretend you are confident when you aren’t? Doesn’t that make sense? Utilise your talent of acting.

At any time that you feel you lack self-confidence, just take in a deep breath or two and pretend you are confident.

There more you do this, the better you will get at it, and the more confident you will become.

How cool is that?

As many of you are aware, taking a 10 minute break during the day is highly beneficial. This is where you go to a quiet place, you sit down, get comfortable and close your eyes. Empty your mind of the day’s events and relax. Chill.

Today, I’d like you to take this relaxation process one step further. Rather than spending 10 minutes sitting quietly, how about you spend only 5 minutes void of any thoughts, and the remaining 5 minutes to visualise what it is that you want.

It could be making that perfect presentation, being confident at a social event, making sure your child’s birthday party goes really well. Whatever.

Visualise what you want in as much detail as you can. See and feel the event with your inner eyes. Sense, accept and nurture the confident emotions that arise.

When you’re done, open your eyes, stand tall and say, “That’s me! I am confident.”

And walk out of that room, feeling sharp and confident.

Should anybody have the opportunity to see my wallet, they will see I have in there a photo of me with my hands up in the air looking happy and confident.

Why do I have that photo?

It serves to lift my confidence in times of need.

Whenever I feel my self-confidence is lacking, I deliberately and immediately discard that disempowering feeling and switch to an empowering and confident mood by taking out my wallet.

I see the photo and almost immediately I smile and switch to feeling capable and confident.

It’s effective. Try it.

Let me throw the question at you: Have you ever wondered why you see a particular situation differently from the person you are with?

Where your friend may see the event from one angle and maybe it reduces his self-confidence, you may see it from a totally different angle, and in your case, you may find that it boosts your confidence.

How can that be? You both witnessed the same situation.

Simply put, it was not the event that reduces or uplifts confidence. It is merely how the event is interpreted.

Your friend was responsible for that lack of confidence, in much the same way that you were responsible for added confidence, simply by the way you both thought about the event.

To build confidence, keep that decision to accept 100% responsibility for how you deal with and respond to all situations.
